Our government and healthcare systems are not really going to guarantee any coverage for you. Even with Medicaid, the doc/hospital can still come after you, assuming they even touch. You question is a tough one. If you are young and in relatively good health, my suggestion is to get a major medical plan via Blue Sheild. This will not cover any doctor visits or prescriptions, but God forbid you need surgery, that will be covered with a deductible of usually about $2000. The cost for a policy will vary based on your age, but I got one recently in between jobs for like $36/month at the age of 38. COBRA will run you about $400+/month probably, so it is worth rolling the dice if you are relatively healthy. If you have health issues, I would get the COBRA and find a new job FAST that will provide coverage for you. GOOD LUCK. |

Yes the assets will count against your eligibility.
Some states have other options than Medicaid type coverage though.
If you lose your job, you are eligible in most cases to continue your group coverage through COBRA but you have to pay the full premium which is going to be very expensive.
You should see if your state has other options like a high risk pool or some other mechanism for those who have assets but no job.
A decent option may be to try to find a cheap temporary short term policy until you can get another job with health benefits.
Assurant Health has a lower cost short term plan that is very reasonably priced. Under $100 per month. It is so low because it is only for less than 6 months and they know they won't be on the hook for a big claim. |

If you have more than $2,000 in assets (bank account, IRA, stocks, mutual funds) you cannot get Medicaid. You also cannot give away your assets in order to qualify.
Look for a job with medical benefits or start your own company.
Talk to a licensed agent about you insurance needs.
