Just keep your existing health plan if you can. The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA) requires most employers with group health plans to offer employees the opportunity to continue temporarily their group health care coverage under their employer's plan if their coverage otherwise would cease due to termination, layoff, or other change in employment status.

They should be reasonable. At the least, a lot lower than cobra fees!!!

If you had health insurance through your employer, you should have been given the option of "Cobra" when you lost your job. It's where you are given the opportunity to continue paying your health premium even though you aren't working there anymore. Most companies have it

You can use COBRA to cover you from your job's insurance company until you find another job. Otherwise, I believe BCBS & Cigna have the best plans as far as self-pay insurance.

Short-term is your best and lowest cost bet.

Best wishes.

It will depend on your health if you can even get private insurance. And also what you call basic, do you want prescription medicine, or doctor visit coverage ( that is basic to me)

There are dozen of online health insurance companies that can be found, a simple web search will turn up more than you could look at in one day

COBRA insurance is not very expensive.

ALL HEALTH INSURANCE IS VERY EXPENSIVE.

It is just under COBRA you finally realize just how much your employer is paying for your coverage.

People get lulled into thinking health insurane is only like $100 a month or so because that's all they pay.

But what they fail to realize is they are only paying like 20% of the premium but their employer is picking up the other 80%.

So they hear a $400 premium and think that is really much more than they've already been paying.

But that's about right.

You might be best off trying to find a short term individual health plan which is limited in term.

A 40-year-old with a $1,000 deductible, 80/20 split and $2000 out of pocket maxium is about $90 per month, available through Assurant Health. They are a very high quality, very aggressive novel health insurer. The policy is so cheap because it is for a limited term usually under 6 months.

If you strung together a couple of those through different insurers that would give you enough time to possible get into a group plan with a premium that your employer picks up the bulk of.
