There are other insurance agencies besides aflac out there for small businesses. My boyfriend has blue cross for his employees. I know that state farm has a small business policy. I'm not sure about others but i do know that there are a lot of different agencies just depending on your location. |

You can always apply for health insurance, but what are we talking about here? You as a sole proprietor or do you own a daycare center with employees?
If you apply for an individual plan, you'll be individually underwritten and your rates will depend on (if you qualify) age, health, type of coverage and amount of coverage. Call a independent health insurance agent.
If it's a small business, you'll be asked to provide a census of employees, where the insurer will collect health information from all employees who want to participate. If the percentage of participating employees is high enough, they'll offer you a group rate. Ball park $350 for individuals $700 for employees with families (that is per month).
The problem I ran into with trying to write Daycare centers: no one wanted to pay the premiums. Daycare workers don't get paid much, school aged workers are covered by parents, retirement aged are on Medicare. So participation was low and the percentage employers are willing to pay was also low.

Anyone can apply for health insurance but the insurance company doesn't have to take you. In most states Aflac only has disability or supplemental policies, not actual health insurance.
You'll want to visit a local independent agent. This person knows the market in your area and can find the best policy for your situation. The cost of the policy varies widely depending upon your location, age, gender current health condition and the type of policy. They don't charge you anything for the service. If your daycare has several employees that need health insurance you could possibly look into getting a group policy. |

You usually need 5 employees to get a group policy - some states as few as three.
So regardless of the TYPE of business you open, you could get a group policy if you have enough employees. The employees usually need to work a minimum of 30 hours a week, and as soon as the number of employees drops under the group minimum, they cancel the group policy.
It's not a way around "individual" coverage, as small groups are rated based on the health issues and ages of the members. |

AFLAC is actually a type of disability insurance, not health insurance.
While there are some jobs that make it more difficult to get health insurance, I'm not aware of daycare providers having any issues with any of the companies I represent.
Ultimately, it's impossible to say if you can get health insurance, or how much it would cost without knowing a LOT more information. At a bare minimum, we'd need to know your location and age to even get a ballpark estimate. And the insurance company will rate (or even decline) based on your personal health history.
You should really try contacting some local agents to get quotes. Start with whomever you have your other policies with and ask for referrals if they're unable to assist you. |
