You can get Jobseekers Allowance, but it's only £35.65 per week. See link for rates:
http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/Customers/WorkingAgeBenefits/Jobseekerallowance/index.html
I'm not sure about Housing Benefit. See link for info:

why do you want to leave home for, life may be hard in your view at the moment but believe me , its a lot harder out there on your own at 16. you are vunerable, maybe a part time job or doing volentary work will give you something to get your mind on, are you living with parents, it is easier being 16 than being a parent of a 16 year old. |

Yes you will... as long as you are in fulltime education you will be entitled to income support up until the age of 18 or 19 I believe. Once you recieve income support or JSA you will be able to claim Housing and council tax benefit for the property you live in.
I was chucked out by my mother as soon as I turned 16 so I know for a fact that you will be entitled to benefits, but remember it will be at a reduced rate if you are under 25 (bit of a joke really as the cost of living is by no way less for younger people).
Also I dont understand how you will move out without a deposit or rent in advance (which is deposit plus 2 months rent in most places in the UK, thats at least £1200+ for a pokey, smelly bedsit/studio), either that or be put in temporary accomidation by the council. Usually a scummy, and I mean proper minging hostel/hotel until they see fit to house you properly (8 months my mate was in there with her daughter).
Do yourself a favour and stay at home, I know it may not feel like it but it really is the easy option. Being thrown out at 16 totally messed up my life, now at 28 I struggle to fit into society. Don't put yourself in that situation voluntarily. Benefits were issued in this country to deal with the post war hardships and many people take now advantage of this. However many people also rely on these during periods of hardship in their lives. One answerer above stated that people on benefits were the lowest socially, an OPINION. Though many people have this arrogant, blinkered attitude, with their privilaged lifestyles they find it hard to fathom how and why people need to depend on benefits.
I would seriously think about what it would be like living alone at 16, when you run out of money, electricity or even worse food. How you would do your washing? the simple things you take for granted living at home. I know it seems hard there now at your age, but believe me it's much harder being out there in the big wide world.
The housing benefit will also be at a reduced rate, usually only enough for just a bedsit/studio until you are 25. That's a fact. I would ask at your citizen's advise office for the exact details of this act they passed in the last 10 years. But you also need to be living in the property/have the tenancy agreement to claim and many landlords wont take DSS. |

No.
Not unless you are unemployed or physically ill.
Even if you are unemployed the amount you get per week is not enough to live off to buy food/clothes and STILL have a quality of life.
Even if you were severely disabled, the amount you get per week is about 1/4 of someone with a basic job.
So lets add those facts together.
Unemployed and severely disabled = 1/4 of a wage of a basic job.
If you're unable to walk, cook, clean have any social life or own anything at all Vs working - then if you can, work.
Benefits simply don't add up and automatically place you at the absolute bottom of society.
The benefits levels were set for a society in 1980, not 2008. |

You should ask the people who answer this question to state whether they are in the U.K. or the U.S., or even better, not to answer at all if they are from the U.S. Our laws are very different from yours in the matters of both benefits and what a person may do legally at 16. |
