Lisa L | If i get fired will my company discontinue my health coverage right away? |

I hope you don't get fired, but if you do, your benefits will still be active until the end of the month. Hopefully, your HR person will tell you (if you do get fired) that COBRA will be available to you for continued medical coverage. Just so you know, it does cost quite a bit more than what you're probably used to having taken out of your salary every month and even moreso if you have dependents. If you do get fired, be sure to file for unemployment benefits right away.
Best of luck! |

Actually, it depends upon the circumstances, and the type of coverage you have through your employer.
If you are fired for malfeasance, theft, forgery, or extortion, the company can pull your benefits immediately, and in some cases seek reimbursement for any claims already paid. Typically, when felonies are involved, this will be the outcome.
For other corporate infringements that result in termination, the rule is generally that you have benefits until whatever you've already paid into runs out, or the premium is up for renewal. In this scenario you will be offered COBRA, or the right to continue your health and other insurance coverage, as long as you pay the full monthly premium.
Depending upon your circumstances and eligibility criteria, COBRA provides a time period of from 18, up to 36 months for this continuation of coverage.
If your employer offered an employer sponsored plan, or "ERISA" group, you would have the same opportunity for continuity of coverage, but there are some very important limitations that can drasctically affect your eligibility. Not the least of which is what would happen if your employer went belly-up.
Under such a plan, your recourse resides with the Department of Labor, as they are the chief regulatory authority with responsibility for the ERISA act of 1974, should any issues of non-coverage arise.
In order to give you an exact answer, one must be aware of your exact circumstances. Because while there are laws and rules that govern continued coverage for employees that lose their positions, the reason for dismissal, and the type of plan involved, will utimately determine your rights under COBRA. |

They might not stop it immediately, but they will give you a date when they will cancel it. It may be a month, or at the end of the year, or a couple of months after, but you should ask them to notify you when they do this. |

My company gave me until the end of the month I was fired. I do not know if they will offer Cobra coverage or not, but Medical insurance usually runs $300 or more. |

different companies have different policies--I would just ask your HR or benefits person at your old job. If you don't want to ask them, you can also ask your insurance company |
