Dwide S | If i have a deviated septum, will insurance cover 1/2 cosmetic.? |
I have deviated septum that inhibits my breathing. I naturally breathe through my mouth. I also* am unhappy with the overall shape of my nose. honestly..my biggest concern is the appearance. My question is there a way that my medical condition(septum) will cut into the overall fee's for the rhinoplasty? |

Insurance doesn't cover VOLUNTARY procedures - and it's highly unlikely that your deviated septum requires surgery for a medical reason. |

Every policy is different; this is definitely something about which you should contact your insurance carrier, so that you will understand what is or is not covered. |

It really depends on what your doctor's diagnosis is. For example, If you are diagnosed with sleep apnea as a result of your deviated septum they may be likely to cover it. It really depends alot on your policy. However, my brother had the surgery and they went in through his nostrils and shaved away the bone that way and his nose looks exactly the same. I have to wonder if you could get your rhinoplasty by having the plastic docs come in and finish you up after the ENT doc is finished, that way your only costs for the plastics would be a physician fee to the plastics doc. You wouldn't have to pay the anesthesia and recovery fees twice. Just an idea. |

chack with your insurance company. At my workplace NO cosmetic surgery would be covered by my insurance. I have a 300$ co-pay. The ironic thing is that my insurance will cover surgery to correct a problem but not to be cosmeticly altered.....did that make since(?) |

Usually depends on your plan... A septoplasty is quite commonly covered under insurance for a deviated septum. They will most likely not cover any of the procedure, if you choose to have a rhinoplasty at the same time. Speak with your doctor, they will be able to provide your insurance company with medical coding and your medical records in an attempt to determine which procedures can be covered. |

The insurance adjuster won't buy it. You may have to fork it out-of-pocket cash for it; it's an elective surgery for you not a necessary surgery, you can still breath through your mouth, right?
The only way the insurance will pay for it is if it is a life-threatening condition e.g in the case that you had a car accident, which caused the deviated septum. If you had this from birth, it's considered a pre-existing condition and the insurance won't cover the surgical expenses to correct it. |
