Gap only covers the DIFFERENCE between the actual cash value, and the loan balance for the car.
It doesn't cover from dollar zero to the ACV, and it doesn't cover any negative equity you might have rolled into the loan, or any late fees, or any forced placement coverage premiums, or any taxes/registration fees.
So. IF you have gap, AND your car is a total loss, it might pay out something. But if it's not a total loss, likely it won't pay out anything. It's going to depend on if your car is totalled or not. |

Gap insurance is only applicable if there is a difference between what you owe and the value of the car. If you do not have insurance, I do not see how this gap insurance will apply. You will have to find out the other parties insurance company and call them. Obtain a copy of the accident report too.

"Gap" covers what regular insurance doesn't, but since you didn't have regular insurance, the costs will all be on you.
I will link an article on cheap insurance, but after this incident, you should probably take the bus to work (or carpool). |
