Right, if you're at fault for the accident, and you have no collision coverage, then you don't get paid for the damage to the car.
If you're NOT at fault for the accident (meaning, another PERSON caused the accident), your insurance company won't help you locate them or collect under their policy for damages to your car. If they have no coverage, you're out of luck. |

That is correct. You did not a premium for collisioin coverage. Therefore, the insurance company has no obligation to you for your property damage.
They do have an obligation to the other person due to your negligence.

Correct, your insurance will not pay for your car in an at fault accident, they will only pay damages to the other party. If you are in a not at fault accident, you will have to go after the other party for your damages. GEICO will not help you in this because you didn't pay for collision coverage (if you did, they would have paid you under your collision & subrogated against the other party). You would have to do it all yourself, deal with the other insurance & hope it is a good insurance company & they pay quickly, but they have no obligation to you. Now, if you had an independent agent, they (at least every independent agency I have worked for will) will help you go to the other party to get your damages paid, even if you didn't purchase collision coverage. They are under no obligation to do so, but, do it as a courtesy for their clients. Hey, it doesn't hurt to get quotes - I beat GEICO's prices all the time. |
