I disagree with most of the above answers. I've sold life insurance for 20 years.
Most private insurance policies have a two year suicide exclusion period. After that, the policy must pay the benefit regardless of manner of death. The two year period is the standard for most states ... as state law governs this issue. It is called the contestable period.
The contestable period is to prohibit the insurance companies from waiting until death ... and then re-underwriting the case and finding a reason to rescind the policy. |

It depends. Some insurance has a 2 year period where suicide negates the policy. |

You might be able to collect if the policy doesn't forbid it. You would need to read the policy, or speak directly to the insurance representative who sold the policy. |

CPA/PFS has it right. It does not vary by policy. The contestability period is limited by the state.
I would point out that you said "nominee" instead of "beneficiary" which tells me you may not be in the States. If you ask a question on this forum, you will primarily have opinions from US observers and real answers from US professionals. |

It depends on the policy. Most insurers have a no suicide clause for the first five or six years. |

Wutz it worth 2 ya?

No, no way to collect it at all. |

The answerers have said it all - so, all I can add is that this site: http://www.legalmatch.com/law-library/article/life-insurance-policy-suicide-clauses.html has some interesting info on what types of events are included. |

It totally depends on all aspects of the insurance policy. My grandfather hung himself 12 years ago but there was a clause in the life insurance policy stating any foul play or suicide automatically nullified any possible monetary reimbursement from the company that insured his life so just read the real small fine print and if you don't understand it take it to a lawyer to get the correct answers but don't sign it til you know exactly what it says |

Thank God! Praise God!

Very good question,
I know that it depends on the situation,
take care! |

Depends on what company, how long you've taken the policy and the riders attached. Some insurance companies will pay IF you've paid premiums for more than two years otherwise your beneficiaries will just receive the cash value; and if there is a suicide rider in your policy. |

It is in the wordings of most life policies that suicide is an excluded peril.
Check the policy's exclusions section, since the suicide provision can be different for each policy.
Suicide clauses appear almost universal in life insurance policies. They are difficult to recognize, however, as suicide clauses can appear anywhere in a life insurance policy and are often no more than one or two sentences long.
The suicide clause in your policy specifies that the insurance company will not pay the money if the insured attempts or commits suicide within a specified period from the beginning of the coverage. If the insured's death is a result of suicide, an insurer will only return previously paid premiums to the family. |

Very doubtful as it is classed as premeditated fraud !
Oh and if you are Catholic you can't go to heaven. |

Many life policies flat-out exclude suicide. Some other policies will cover it, but not within the first 5 to 10 years of the policy. Whether or not suicide is covered is very specific, and you can only know for sure by contacting the insurance company and/or carefully reading the policy language. |

His beneficiary? Maybe. Is suicide covered, or excluded? Is the policy past the contestable period? If it's covered, and the policy is past the contestable period, then yes. |

I don't believe so. Even if he fakes it, insurance companies will investigate if it's really an accident or suicide. |

Not if the policy negates suicide. I have never heard of an insurance policy that pays off in the case of a suicide. |
