If someone else is driving your car and they get into an accident, who pays?
My ex-boyfriend was driving my car a few months ago and got into an accident. I don't have full coverage on my car, so I decided not to tell my insurance company because my insurance would go up and they wouldn't pay for anything. So, is it his responsibility to pay for it or mine because I let him drive my car?
Thanks in advance. Additional Details It was his fault and he did not hit any other cars, he hit a guard rail.
you are supposed to tell your insurance company when you have an accident. It's possible they would have covered the cost of repair under your policy if he was driving with permission. It depends on your policy.

There is no set rule. You have to work it out with him. Good job calculating the deductable and estimating the repairs, and conculding not to use insurance. You did the exact right thing.
You shoud not call your insurance company about an accident (if it is no-fault or the fault of the person driving your car) until you have had time to evaluate your coverage and the damage. Good job. Good luck.
I would demand that he pay for the repairs. Be firm. He owes you the money.

The way it works in California is it is the car that's insured, not the driver. That means your insurance company would pay.

depends who his the responsible of that accident if it's not him no problem and you can ask to make repair your car but if he's responsible it's your assurance they have to pay for the damage of the other vehicle.

His responsibility--if one borrow something from someone it is the borrowers responsibility to return it at least as good as they got it--and with a car it should have a tull tank of gas.

Its his but in the sense you didn't have full coverage so there is no way to fight it. does he have insurance? thats another option. but most def. it is his he should man up and pay for the damages.
