Pretty t | If you ran a hospital...? |
If you ran a hospital, what policy would you set for dealing with emergency patients who arrive without health insurance or money? |
|

The law dictates much in the way of a response. Non-profit hospitals (by far the majority of hospitals) are required to treat those who present themselves without regard to such coverage.
For-profit organizations MUST provide 'life-saving treatment' in an emergency situation, but are not bound to provide further treatment without evidence of ability to pay.
The notion of hospitals as charities is far over blown. Bear in mind that a hospital must make its regular payroll, as well as paying all other costs incurred in running the facility. I assure you that such is NOT inexpensive in the least. |
|

my 1st has arrived
 |
i would still treat them andi i would send them a bill with small monthly payments due and i would write off the amount as a tax deduction |

i would take them no matter what. but after they are well they need to figure out a way to pay. because if you dont you will have people who will go to the ER for any reason knowing that they dont have to pay a dime. And you can have people abusing the system by having money and saying that they dont so they dont have to pay. |

try that in USA and see what your response would be no matter what is wrong with you so the NHS might someway take notice and stop treating all and sundry and pushing it further in the red |

It's ALREADY set by law - you have to treat life threatening emergencies or women in active labor. Everyone else you can send home, transfer, or treat, depending on how busy you are and your resources. |

don't most hospitals treat/demand full payment a few months later, (bankruptcy be darned) anyway? they don't run off charity |

Hey that porky guys gota a point. Why couldn't patients help each other Kinda like the payforward effect. The one who have no money should be able to work it off. I was laughed at by a collection agency, but why not? |

eith shoot them on the spot, or treat them and get them to pay it back when they can, people need to love more! |
|

Uncle Pork
 |
I'd fix them and then force them into labor camps to pay the hospital back. |
