If the insurance company paid to replace the entire roof -- it's because the entire roof needed it.
Here's the problem with not replacing the roof - when the roof starts to leak in a few years - the insurance company will NOT pay to replace it again. Now you have to pay to replace it out of pocket and it will be more expensive because the price of shingles is always going up (and they never come back down.).
So save yourself the head ache and just get the roof replaced. |

If you received a check for a new roof from the insurance company there was more than a shingle which needed replacement.. So you had better find someone to assess your roof before you spend the money on some other thing. |

Yes, the check is for your roof, a damage shingle is part of the roof. However if something were to happened to your roof sooner than later the insurance company will start an investigation and may look back at all the claims you have ever filed. Fix your shingle and put that money away for a really rainy day. Because the way insurance prices are now you may need it sooner. |

yes.i wouldn't turn in any more roofing claims though, they may come out and notice you didn't get a new roof.even so, i believe that the check is yours and it's up to you how you spend it. |
