Scooby Doo | If you write out a will with a company and don't tell anyone, how does that company know when your dead? |

You know, I've wondered this. I know the death will be advertised in the newspaper and that, but do they check every day for dead people that are their clients? And what if they're off sick on the day you die? Or you have a common name and they distribute your estate when you're still alive? |

When making a will, you should appoint an 'executor' who would know if you popped off, and see that your wishes were carried out. Not much point making a will if you don't take steps to see that it would be obeyed, is there? |

The company will know because they have access to records made by the morgs and death records.
Although.. You should really tell people. |

They don't unless you make some provision for them to be notified. |

I'm pretty sure that they have someone checking the obits everyday, cause if you read the personals or public notices, they sometimes have ads asking if anyone knows this person etc etc., its to make sure their are no outstanding debts and if their is any family out there that could be an heir and they dont know, hope that helps, goodluck! |

Why would you "write out a will with a company"? The proper thing to do when you execute a will is to let your next of kin know about it and where it is kept. |

because you dont turn up for work, however if you are retired the funeral directors will look into previous employment for a will and will be able to find it. |

If you don't want next-of-kin to know you have made will, write letter addressed to them, and leave with any other papers that they will have to examine after your death, telling them where will is. Otherwise your will will be a waste of time, and it will be assumed you died intestate. |

That's the executor's responsibility. |
