If your employer does not provide you with health insurance can they fire you for not having a dr's note?
my employer fires people if they dont bring a doctors not after taking a sick day. i was just wondering if she could do that since she doesnt provide health insurance?
If you do not have an employment contract that specifies an attendance policy, your employer is free to fire you. If you have a union that has a collective bargaining agreement with your employer that includes protection in this area, you may have some protection from unfair termination.
As others have mentioned, a company is not required to provide health insurance. Unfortunately, abuse of sick leave is a major problem in some industries, so the doctor's note requirement is becoming quite common.
Good luck.

Company health insurance or the lack of it has nothing to do with company policies regarding absenses.

If it is in the company policy then yes she can do it. She also can possibly do it anyway. It really depends on the laws in your state. Whether insurance is provided or not doesn't really matter though. Most states are right to work states, meaning you can be let go for any reason at any time, or even without reason at any time.

It depends on company policy. Currently, employers are not required to offer health insurance. Its an entitlement or lure a lot of companies have to bring in better workers.
So, just because your company does not offer health insurance does not mean you boss cannot fire people who don't bring in doctor's notes. So, the answer to your question is YES.
There are a lot of free clinics out there that can give you a quick check up and a doctor's note.

Health insurance has nothing to do with it. First rule is: you have to know what the rules are. She set the rules, you have to live by them. Think about it. If you are truely sick, you should go to the Dr.s. If you had a real miserable cold, you could always call the boss up, and ask if she wanted you in. Explain it is a cold. She would hear your voice and make a decision.

She can fire you for not showing up at work, regardless of the doctor's note.
Employers are NOT required to provide health insurance for their employees.
