When making a responsible decision such as purchasing life insurance, here are some things to consider:
Make sure your friend represents a legitimate company with a history of life insurance experience. You don't want to purchase a policy from a company that may not be operating in the near-future.
Secondly, make sure your friend has taken into account your personal life situation at the moment and the foreseeable future i.e. if you are engaged you may have kids soon...
Understand the product you being offered for different pros and cons. A term policy allows you to purchase larger amounts of insurance than permanent polices but, doesn't offer various tax benefits offered in many VUL (Variable Universal Life) policies.
Lastly, make sure your colleague will re-examine the policy annually to make sure you are covered adequately and to insure yourself for changes that may occur in the future (new job, larger salary, larger mortgage, larger family).
Good luck! People always insure their vehicles but rarely take the time to insure their families protected against their untimely demise. |

regardless if you are doing business with a long time friend or a person you met yesterday the bottom line is you should feel comfortable and confident in your decision.
you should ask any questions you feel you need to and take all the time you need to make the right decision for yourself. if they are your friend and they believe in their product or service they shouldn't have a problem.
quetions for lfe insurance would be:
term life or universal coverage - term life is a set dollar amount that only pays in the event of death. universal is sold as an investment (not!) and has cash value. often you can borrow against the cash value of your policy. (this i when you borrow your own money at a higher rate of interest)
how long the payment is guaranteed for
difference in payment between dollar amount coverage ($10,000, $50,000, $250,000 etc)

don't worry. getting a life insurance is always a good thing.
usually, i'm concerned about how long am i going to pay for the coverage. so ask about the term - is it a 5 yr, 10 yr or 20 year term. did he offer you any riders or attachments - like accident, term, critical illness, disability, endowment. ask him to explain in details about it and then decide which is important for you. ask about the payment mode and the amount of the premium - check if it is within your budget.
i only get insurance from credible and well known company - a company with a solid reputation. you might want to check that out too. |

We just don't know what your goal is. If your goal is "to buy life insurance", then you're being sold. If you don't have a financial goal, that this policy is meeting, you need to sit down and think things through before buying. |
