The vast majority of the US is on a fixed income. THat means, you get a regular check, and have to stay within the budget.
Life insurance costs what it costs. If you guys are healthy and non-smokers, low risk kinda people, a 20 year term policy is going to be cheap. Whole life costs about 10X what term life costs.
You'll have to call around to a few local agents who can get you a buncha quotes. |

If you are looking for coverage to cover a mortgage, provide for each other, protect kids, etc.. forget whole life and consider term life instead.
You can the coverage you need at a more affordable rate with term insurance.
Look for policies with good conversion privilege that will allow you to exchange the term for permanent insurance later on if that becomes your need. Good luck. |

whole life is the most expensive form of insurance, which is why you're having such a terrible time finding an affordable policy.
what you probably should be looking for is guaranteed renewable term insurance. that's the cheapest form of insurance. and it is permanent as long as you make the payments.
insurance salespeople get paid more to sell more expensive policies ... which is why they're always trying to sell whole life.
naturally, the consumer ends up paying the salesman's commissions. [the company isn't going to do it for free.]

Whole life is a horrible idea. Invest in an investment, not an insurance policy. Insurance companise should not be in the investment business.
Get LEVEL TERM and invest the difference. |

Modus Operandi
 |
The folks who keep telling you term is the way to go and whole life is a bad idea fail to see that if you purchase a term policy and still need to continue your benefits after the term, your premiums will jump significantly, somewhere in the neighborhood of 5x. So it sucks to pay more now for whole life, but I believe in the end it's a better idea. |
