No health insurance and there's an accident and now many medical bills, not long term and no permanent disabilities, but something that may accumulate to thousands of dollars in medical bills, is there any way that you can get (free) coverage through the Medicaid program or some other program? |

You'll have to apply for Medicaid and find out if you qualify for coverage. Each state has their own rules.
Whether Medicaid will cover what is now a pre-existing condition, I don't know. The only way to find out is to apply. Check the weblink below which shows the eligibility requirements for New York. |

If it's a car accident, the car insurance covers anything related to it medically.
If you fall ill and are hospitalized, the social workers at the hospital can help you get emergency Medicaid. You need to ask for the help - they don't volunteer it.
If you work, look into the Healthy New York - it's the same insurance as you would buy privately, but NYS subsidizes some of the cost, so it's cheaper than buying it yourself. They have strict income guidelines though. |

Get a cheap health insurance policy now before something else happens. You may want to try a website that compares multiple companies at once to get you the best price. I am paying less than ½ after I did.

He may very well still qualify for health insurance; HOWEVER, no health insurance (including Medicaid) will go into effect retroactively.
You asked if he can still get coverage and that's not really the question in this case. Even if he DOES get coverage, he's still going to owe for those bills. |
