It's a boy! | Insurance and hospital bills? |
I am pregnant and the doctors office nurse said I only owe 10% of the actually cost. But when they billed me the whole amount on the bill. My insurance is supposed to cover the remaining costs. Also I paid some of my bill and they gave me a receipt and at the top it says to send it to the insurance company. Do I have to do that? It is just a copy of the hospitals receipt. I thought the hospital handles all the payments. I'm not really sure how all this stuff goes. I have never had to pay hospital bills before. I would call the doctors office but it is closed today. |

They will show the entire balance on your account until your insurance pays them. It is not a big deal, just call the office and let them know that you are witing for insurance to pay. Don't pay more than your copay until you get an explanation of benefits statment from the insurance company (EOB). This will show what the Dr. billed how much is allowed, what they pay and what your responsibilty is. Take to patient responsibility amount and subtract all the money you payed to the dr already and that is what you still owe.
Be prepared to get several bills though, the doctor, the anesthesiologist, the hospital, pediatrician, and audiologist will alll bill seperately after the delivery.
Just match all your bills to the EOBs.

contact youre insurance they will walk you thru wat to do,,its not easy ,but stick to makeing sure ur ins pays ,,they will try to put as much on you as possible even if they should pay but hang in there hospital bills never go away |

The hospital does NOT have to bill the insurance company.
Call your insurance company and ask if the bill was submitted, or do you need to get a claim form from them. |

Many times in our computer run lives bills are sent to you before insurance payments reach the service providers. The best advice I could give you is to contact your insurance provider and see if they have sent payment to the hospital then if they have you need to contact the hospital to verify that they have received it. It is unfortunate
that the patient needs to do the leg work between insurance company's
and medical providers in this day and age but thats simply the way it is. |

Here's how it works...step by step.
1) Set up appointment
2) Go to doctor's office and show them your card (maybe pay a copay at that time)
3) See doctor and go home...
4) Doctor's office bills insurance company/network
5) Insurance company/network adjusts bill and sends it back to doctor. At the same time they send you an explanation of benefits (EOB) telling you what you will likely owe the doctor.
6) Doctor gets info from insurance company and generates a bill to you. (this could be 3-12 weeks after leaving the office mind you)
7) You get the bill and match it to your EOB to make sure the doctor's bill matches the amount on the EOB (less the copay if you paid one).
8) If they match then you pay the balance due if any.
9) If they don't match you start to make phone calls and find out why.
It works the same whether it's for surgery, lab, xray, etc... Never pay the doctor anything but a copay upfront. Even when the hospital calls and asks for money before you deliver you tell them that you're more than happy to pay them AFTER services are rendered but not before. |
