Insurance and no claims bonus?(please help)?
my boyfriend has paid of his car insurance for 9 months but he gets 3 months for free without any payments. he has just bought a van and oes he loose his 3 months free insurance or should they refund him the months he has paid for? and also he has 3months left to claim his no claims bonus does he loose that when he changes his van insurance? many thanksx
hope i explained well.?
I'm assuming he's sold his car and bought the van.
If that's the case he won't lose his no claims if he changes insurer. If he does change insurer the old ins. company should offer a refund for the unused part of the year, but they might charge an "admin fee".
Edit; try to stay with the same insurer.

No. The insurance agent just needs to change the car on the policy from his old car to the new one. Nothing else should change.
If they try to change anything, like write a new policy, I would change companies. They should be only changing the car on the policy.
And, there is nothing for free. He is just paying the years premiums in 9 months instead of 12.

Call your insurance agent and ask.

He just needs to phone his insurance company and they will change his current policy from his old car to his new van. He may have to pay an admin charge and there may be extra to pay if the van is in a higher insurance group.
Also it will prob cost more if he intends to use the van for work purposes.
Best bet phone the insurance co.

This sounds like either an installment scheme, i.e. pay the full years premium in 9 monthly installements, or genuinelly 12 months for the price of 9.....i.e. some sort of special offer. If you are changing vehicle, then normally an adjustment would be made to the annual premium depending on the type of replacement vehicle, either a refund or additional amount. Changing to a van might be a bit more complicated as if might be treated as a commercial vehicle and might require a commercial vehicle policy.......phone up company and ask. Normally any no claim discount transfers with you when you change insurer, but again could be complicated if moving to a commercial vehicle policy.....does he use the van for business purposes ?
