Of course not.
If it were that easy, there wouldn't be nearly as many uninsured people as there are. Everyone would just conveniently pay a "boyfriend" or "girlfriend" who doesn't live with them to add them to their policy.
The only way that a boyfriend or girlfriend can be added to a policy is if there is a domestic partner clause. (And the majority of groups don't allow domestic partners.) And even then...literally every domestic partner clause I've ever seen requires that the couple live together and show documentation of being in an established relationship. Some even require documentation like utility bills in both persons names, joint bank accounts, etc.
If you want to cover him on your health insurance, either establish an official domestic partnership under the rules of your group (*if* domestic partnerships are allowed) or marry him. Those are your only 2 options. |

I am currently on my boyfriend's health insurance however, we reside together and having been together for more than 2 years, sharing household expenses (i.e. a lease), we meet the definition of "domestic partners" for his health insurance carrier.
If you aren't married or residing together, you cannot add him to your health policy, as far as I know. |

Domestic partner coverage is allowed in many states, but it also must be allowed by the insurance company, and your employer. Of course, the criteria for "domestic" partners begins with co-habitation and mutually exclusive relationships, with mutual financial support.
In my professional opinion, you would not qualify. An affidavit is required to be sworn to attest to the facts. Additionally, they may require additional proof, like utility bills, joint bank account statements, etc. |

Well, I am not sure how it all works, and if it works in all states with all insurances or only some states and some insurances. What I do know is that you can provide insurance for your partner if you can prove you have been living together for awhile. Go to your HR and find out if you can provide coverage for your partner. They call it domestic partnership. Usually, you will need to prove you live together, and thats by I would assume bringing in bills, and also, I have a friend who had to bring in a statement of a joint savings account. I guess this would prove the domestic partnership. Why else would anyone have a joint account? Also, the account had to have been opened for at least 9 months before you could provide coverage.
