Insurance...i backed my newly owned/newly insured vehicle into a wall?
i filed a claim, not knowing what to do exactly, but i was later told that i shouldn't have filed the claim because the damage isn't going to be too great a cost. i have a 500 deductible, and the entire rear bumber is going to have to be replaced, but now i am being told that my insurance is going to go up. i am 19 and i was wondering if any insurance saavy citizens out there know about how much i should expect to see my insurance go up. or can i just not go through with the claim??? or is it done and now i just have to live with the consequences of making that mistake.

No way to know. It's possible, if the damages are under the surcharge threshhold for your state, that it might not go up at all. Or it could be 20%. Or more, if you have any OTHER incidences or violations.

Likely, you CAN withdraw the claim, as long as the owner of the wall isn't claiming any damages.

Your agent will have a MUCH better idea. I'd strongly suggest calling them and asking for state-specific information.

get a quote for the repairs . These days a rear bumber can cost like $1500 , if the repair is less than your deductable then ask your agent if you can cancel the claim. They dont usually because it is part of your accident record with them .
You may have to live with it. You can always look at other companies coverage . Sometimes an insurer will reduce your premium if they would otherwise lose the business.

When you file a claim you will usually will see a increase of 20% for 3yrs. The company I work for will not increase your rate if the claim is under $600.

So do the math:

you pay $500 for insurance each 6months then you will see an increase of $100 every six months so times that by three years equals $300 + your deductible of $500 for a total cost to you of $800.

But if you plan on switching insurance company's in the next three years the accident on your record will kill you. And you will be forced to stay with your current company until the claim come off.

Hope that helps!

If you filed the claim with your insurer, it's done and you can't stop it. Your insurance will go up, but it's impossible to tell how much because so much of your rates is based on personal info, even if you're in assigned risk. Take your defensive driver courses, too.
In the future, get the estimate first.

At your age your insurance would skyrocket. Pay it yourself. Don't claim it.

You got some very good answers here. I just wanted to add that, if you reported the claim to your agent you have a chance (Though not great) to withdraw the claim. If you reported the claim to a claims office, that ship has sailed and there is nothing anyone can likely do. It is strongly recommended for body damage like that (Where another car / someone else's property isn't involved) that you get an estimate before turning in a claim.

Good luck.
