my mother and i are under the same insurance company but we are separate from eachother, i have my own insurance and she has her own, she pays her bill everymonth, i had trouble paying my insurance so they canceled mine, is there any reason at all for them to cancel hers as well if we are seperate from eachother?? she pays her bill |

Unfair? Maybe? but unfortunately it is possible. The reasoning is if you no longer have insurance and are a member of the household...... your mom will be "forced" to lend you her car.... therefore making you an operator on her policy. If you cause her to not "qualify" for the program she is in.... they could possibly cancel her for "underwriting reasons". Your best bet is to shop around with a few independent agents in your area... and I mean both of you together. This will help you to get a bunch of options with only a few calls. By shopping together it will avoid this potential problem in the future. |

There's no valid reason I can think of for the insurance company to cancel her policy IF you both have separate policies AND she truly was making her payments on time.
Your mom should call the insurer and ask them to explain why her policy was cancelled. If they say she didn't pay, she should be able to produce proof that she did; for example, by providing a copy of the cancelled check.
If the insurer refuses to reinstate her policy right away, she should contact your state insurance commissioner' office. She'll be asked to put her complaint into writing and her concerns will be investigated right away. |

Well, one scenario that comes to mind is - if you are required by your state to carry insurance, yours lapsed, you didn't pick up a new policy within the required time frame and resulted in a registration or license suspension for yourself. Some companies can and will consider the incident in the household and it can affect other household policies. Now, something similar to that did not happen, I can't see why they'd cancel her policy.
I don't know if you are saying they did or asking if they will - but if they did and you and she feel it was wrong, contact the company to find out the reasoning - if you still are dissatisfied contact your state's insurance commissioner. |

Insurance does not cancel a policy when another family member's policy became delinquent. It may be possible you and your mother are on one policy to cover two separate individuals. If the company did cancel your mother's policy because you became delinquent, your mother should file a complaint to the Department of Insurance. She needs to contact her insurance agent. |
