which part of insurance? product design, wholesaling, direct sales?
If you're going to be an insurance agent, then it really doesn't matter. I was a music composition major. It may be helpful to have the knowledge on how to run a business, some colleges do actually have insurance majors, or finance would be help lessen the learning curve once you get out. Psychology may be nice, so you can understand how people act. Drama might be good too so you can get over your jitters.
Almost any major would be good development, in fact you wouldn't even have to wait till you got out of college to start. When I was supporting other agents, one of my favorite growing agents was a 19 year old at UNC. |

mine is bachelor of science in computer science. I am in insurance business for 5 years and now I am using my IT skill to develop e-insurance in my country ! IT + Insurance = new distribution channel !.
More and more people are using the internet to search for info. You are no exeption. Take extra IT courses. It will be a great help in your future insurance business. Insurance company use a lot of IT !
Bear in mind, with the advancement of technology agent, broker, will writer, trader, will need to add more value in their services. Quote comparison and policy details are just a click away. Full transparency and fees reduction in this competitive world will not allow middle man to make a lot.
You need to be more innovative to differentiate your services |

Some big schools now do offer actuary or underwriting geared concentrations. There are several universities in Florida that offer Insurance as a major. Do a B.A management or admin.
From there on you can learn the sales, marketing, underwriting or anything else you want to get into... |

The best area to get your degree is Mathematics and/or Business Finance. |

If you want to become an agent I would suggest Marketing or Business Management. Buy yourself a Rolodex now and get active in your community. Build professional contacts that you can turn to for referrals in the future. |

I was in the same position you were 15 years ago and I majored in Business Administration. I have been working in Insurance since I graduated.
With a Business Administration major, if you decide later on in life that you do not wan't to work in insurance, you can still have the background knowledge to shift your career focus.
There are also a few colleges that actually have Insurance as a major. For example, Illinois State has a great insurance program that is largely sponsored by State Farm (their HQ are in Bloomington, IL). |

It really, really, really doesn't matter. Mine, for example, is in Communication Disorders (speech therapy).
"Business" majors don't mean much. It's more important that you can get a degree in ANYTHING, than what the anything is.
So do something fun, that you like. |

It really doesn't matter. However, I would recommend something that will develop your critical thinking skills as well as your writing skills. My undergrad is in journalism. So, you see, it really doesn't matter. |

I got my BS in Mathematics with the idea of becoming an actuary. I started in a bank for a few months & was very bored & ended up in insurance & haven't been bored since. |
