I'm guessing at your age that he is a type I diabetic. For life insurance, expect your independent agent to ask a good number of questions to get preliminary quotes - is he on a pump? what's his a1c? how frequently does he do his check-ups? etc. This might take about a week or so, but will help narrow down his choices to 2-3 companies.
Health insurance is trickier because he poses a greater immediate risk to the company. It's also not my bag, but there are different strategies out there that are state specific. Talk to a few local independent agents.
Don't expect your life and health person to be the same. It's hard to be a one-man-band and be a master at both the clarinet and knee cymbals. |

You can either call some companies or find an agent that can help you. Best of luck. |

Find a local independent insurance agent or a financial planner and discuss your situation at great length - including the goals that you have in life.
Adopt an exceptionally healthy lifestyle. Prove to the insurance company that you will both live to 200.

Good Luck. |

There are companies out there that are more lienant on diebetics than others that are very good companies. I have personally insured a couple of diebetic clients, they have been type I, type II is more difficult, be prepared to pay a higher premium even for term insurance. That being said it might be a good idea to get a mix plan, where you buy some permenant life insurance with some term, that way you lock in a lower premium with the permenant life insurance to offset the term in the later years, thereby also gauranteeing his insurability later.
The health insurance is going to be more dificult. If he can get into a group plan with an employer or if he is self employed he may want to look into some chamber of commerces, they often get a group plan together and can offset the cost for you. You can join most chambers as well as individules, so all you will pay for is the annual membership plus the group premium, which will be much less then the total cost of care and medication in any given year.
Congratulations on the engagment and best wishes!! |

It would really help if you listed a location. Diabetics are notoriously difficult to insure (and I speak from personal experience as both an insurance agent and a diabetic.) The options are going to be few and far between and they'll vary by state.
Life insurance will actually be easier to get than health insurance, though both will be rated up if they're approved. Seriously, list your location and someone familiar with the region may be able to offer some specific suggestions. |

My friend from Dallas, Texas had a pre-existing condition and could not get insurance that he could afford. I think he was quoted about $1500/mo!
He had a massive heart attack and almost died. But he had a
Health Benefits Plan that helped him to save a lot of money.
Here is the information on that plan.
See if this might help you.

For life insurance, the International order of Foresters will offer coverage for a diabetic if there is a history of stability without rating you up.
Once you are actually married and have that as a life event, you can get coverage through them without a medical exam.
Send me an email if you have any other questions about Foresters. Their web site can be found at http://www.iof.org/ |
