Listen, ALL health insurers are stupid. (Each one is dumber than the next, at least from the provider's point of view.) I currently have Aetna for myself and have no issues with them whatsoever.
You want to make sure that any doctors or hospitals/facilties you might use are in network - you get better benefits that way. And, as long as you stay within the notification (i.e. referrals, etc.) guidelines, and you have an idea what the plan covers and what needs authorizations, you should be fine. |

I have allergies-that company denies my prescriptions for allergy medication. It is the only problem I have. The insurance is provided to me by my work. There are many simple medications that require "pre-authorization" and have "quantity limits". I was mad last time. The doctor called in a prescription for me on a holiday weekend. I needed an antibiotic for a sore throat and low grade fever. The company is Monday through Friday. 3 pills were required-the company covers one. I paid for the three pills and submitted a claim. The pill was $7 each. The minimum co-pay was $10. The pharmacist said the company denied the claim for exceeding plan limits. It has been 6 weeks. I* have heard nothing. The total claim was $22.87. The co-pay would have been $10. I submitted a claim for $12.87 because the plan limit made me mad. |

Most health insurance is good, it just depends on your plan. Read carefully. Look for hidden costs and high deductibles. These types are less desirable. Good luck. |

We have Allied Benefit and it's so confusing.
My only experience with Aetna is when my mom had them for her hospice care. I remember the rep being SO kind when we needed things - and she was a credit to that company.
Every company has pros & cons - it's really hard to make a choice. I might direct you to www.pnhp.org - for info in general. Sometimes I read The Rip Off Report but again, some of those whiners don't have a case - some do! |

Its not really contingent on your carrier but it is on the plan you have. Certain carriers are more helpful, but the plan you have determines your amount of coverage. I personally like Horizon the best and they have good plans with good customer service (I live in NJ). If you want to keep your plan cheaper then get a high deductible plan with a higher copay. If you don't use prescriptions often you can also have a higher copay on that to minimize cost. Or if you want good coverage then go for a lower deductible. If you go to the doctors office more often then get a lower copay. Its all relative on your needs. |
