GEICO is short for Government Employee Insurance Company.
Yes, GEICO is cheap insurance. If you are a military member or you are employed by the government you're rates will go really low and thus you will get cheap payments. And if you had a good prior good driving records it will help you more.
I was with progressive in 2003 and they charge me $398.92 a month, after I learned about GEICO a year ago, my rates changed to $120.00 a month for two cars. |

my claims experience with them was awful, they could not beat the rate i get with State Farm either, so for me they r not cheaper but they might be for you, like someone said previously check around, if you have claims or tickets make sure you let them know, if you don't tell them and they find them later they will drop you. But make sure you check around call local agents and get quotes. Its better to go with a local agent so you can understand the quoted coverages. Make sure the quotes you are getting all have the same coverages so you can compare them equally. Someone may quote u 400 every six months for state minimum and someone else may quote 100/300/100, and it could be 425.00 so just watch it, and make sure you understand what you are getting. |

When shopping for insurance I look for the following basic things:
1 - REPUTATION of the company. I have never heard bad things about them.
2 - QUALITY of service.
Everytime I had to call GEICO when I had car trouble, they will always ask if I am in a safe place.
When I was moving cross country - I had a tire blow-out. I was way up in the mountains of MT & it was nearly dark. I called GEICO & they were very helpful. When I called to inquire when the tire repair truck would come, I told them that I felt very un-easy & they offered to send a police escort. I am glad that happened, because the cop told me that - that town was the meth-amphetamine capital of MT!
3 - PRICE
I have had 3 different insurance carriers. When I compare them, GEICO is the best. They have the best price ((I had 2 other companies tell me that they could give me a cheaper price - THEN when they did the calculations, they could NEVER touch GEICO's price.))
I love GEICO & always tell everyone about GEICO. If you want just cheap and are NOT concerned about SERVICE, then go with any carrier who has cheap prices.
Oh yeah - last note - GEICO has lowered my rate because I have a safe driving record! |

They may be the best deal in some areas for some people. They tend to only accept good drivers so they're able to keep their rates competitive.
The dirtly little secret is that if you are a poor driver they will roll you over to one of their companies that specialize in that area such as Criterion. Those rates are quite high.
I was with GEICO for a number of years and never had any problems. I never had an auto claim but did have a couple of homeowner's claims. Those were handled quickly and fairly. |
