My dad owns the home we live in. We live in Los Angeles area, and we don't have insurance at the moment. I'd like to know how hard it is to get, and a ballpark estimate of the cost. I am about 5 miles from los angeles, I am in LA county. I live in a 3 bedroom 1 bath house. I'd like to be safe for all major things that could happen, all things imaginable. I'd just like some insight, please, any & all the information I can get would be Highly appreciated!!! And do they have to come to our house? and check it out first?

No one here can give you a quote or even a ballpark figure. We do not know the condition of the house, the age, the replacement value, etc, etc. There probably are 100 questions I ask anyone calling for a homeowners quote. The best thing to do would be to call a couple independent agents and let them shop the insurance for you. The best place to start would be your father's auto insurance company as they may give an account discount.
Since the house is uninsured at the moment, most companies would send out an inspector before they write the policy to make sure there is no existing damage to the house & that it is in good shape. |

It depends on the house, the history, and where you live.
NO policy covers "all things imaginable". Credit score and claims history has a lot to do with pricing. Someone likely WILL come to your house.
Homeowners premiums are based on the cost to rebuild the house, the age, location, etc. An accurate ballpark is probably somewhere between $300 and $10,000 depending on all these factors, and which coverages/ policies you want to buy. Where you are, earthquake is a seperate policy. |
