Is Primarica a scam...I don't think that they really sell life insuance, want to make sure my $$ is well spent?
Neighbor is pushing us to by life insurance threw Primarica. I don't think I can't trust them when they say that they are breaking away from citigroup. Hell citigroup is not looking so hot. I feel that this company is some type of prymaid deal cause they also want me to sell there product to.

It's a real product, but it's a multi level marketing insurance bit - first you get the life insurance, then they try to sign you up to sell life insurance through Primerica, too.

Price wise, they aren't particularly competitive.

Get the quote, then go to someplace like www.zanderinsurance.com and see how much other companies would charge you for the exact same coverage.

If you WANT to buy that life insurance, you can probably get it elsewhere, cheaper, with no more hassling to sign up to sell it.

I had some dealings with Primarica Financial (formerly AL Williams, I believe) and I felt that that there were reasons for concern. There was a MLM (multi level marketing) structure that I was not comfortable. My recommendation is to secure term life through one of the life insurance websites like INSWEB. I used that site and had good luck. The only thing you have to watch out for is a bit of bait and switch by the carriers. Both times I was quoted very low superpreferred rates and they tried to crawfish with much higher rates (placing a mark with the MIB or Medical Information Bureau which kind of screws you as to trying to get other coverage). In both cases I made Department of Insurance complaints and lo and behold they became a lot more reasonable. Good luck.,

They have nothing competitive at all and their reps know very little about anything finanical.

As you can see their agents are usually part timers and have other jobs.

Shop around with the big companies. They all have competitive rates when it comes to life insurance. Get an agent has some experience, more than a few years and is a full time agent.

Yes, Primerica is a typical pyramid scheme (scheme...not scam...what they are doing is completely legal). They are an MLM based business where all the agents try to get people to sell underneath them. It is your typically Amway, Mary Kay, etc way of doing business. They are more concerned about 2 things (selling you a life insurance policy and getting you to sell them to your friends) than doing what is right for clients. Most agents are parttimers in the business just looking to make a couple extra bucks by giving canned sales pitches to their friends.

Aside from their 'sketchy' way of doing business, Primerica is very uncompetitive in their pricing. If you go to a site like winquote.net or any other quoting website, and Primerica is consistantly amongst the bottom of the pile (in most States in the US, they rank in the 50-60th range, in most provinces in Canada, they rank dead last price wise)

If you are in the market and looking to buy life insurance contact a lisensed insurance broker in your area who has access to mulitiple product lines from multiple companies.

I guess to directly answer your initial question: Primerica is not a scam, so to speak, they are legally fit. However, they are amongst the least competitive companies on the market and I personally wouldn't recommend anyone to deal with them. Just my opinion.

RUN! and RUN FAST! As stated earlier Primarica was formerly know as A.L. Williams and was described by USA as "The jackals of the insurance industry". They had legal action against them in dozens of states and reformed as Primarica. They have a history of purchasing companies with a solid name brand ( Smith Barney, Travelers, etc) and running them into the ground. There are numerous other companies that offer what you need. Contact a local broker who represents many different companies and compare quotes. Tell your neighbor to stay on his side of the fence! :)
