Is beneficiary information included on renewal paperwork they send to owner of policy?
Need annual insurance information on ex to make sure he is continuing life insurance with me listed as beneficiary (for minor child). He insists that they don't send him that info so he can't give me dated info that there have been no changes to policy. I have group policy so I don't get that information but his is private and purchased by him.

Wouldn't that info be on policy renewal sheet he receives??

thanks for any help

No. None of my life insurance policies list beneficiary information or face value information on the premium notices I receive. The notice simply tells me how much is due and on what date for the policy to remain in effect. It is similar to a bank statement since it pays dividends which remain with the policy (or I could withdraw) and that information is required by law to be declared for tax purposes. Is this requirement that he provide life insurance listing you as beneficiary in your settlement agreement? Are you SURE? The reason I ask is when I got divorced, my ex had the option of taking over the payments on our son's insurance or dropping the policy. I was under NO obligation to continue the insurance since I did not have primary custody. Child support, yes. Medical insurance, yes, for a limited time. Maintenance, yes, for a limited time. Life insurance coverage, NO, my ex could either transfer the existing coverage or drop it. I have NO idea which option she chose. I turned over the policy papers to her and notified the insurance company of the change including a copy of the divorce papers. All of this was completely spelled out in the settlement agreement. The person who pays the premiums, the one who "owns" the policy specifies the beneficiary and can change it at will, at any time of the day or night simply by notifying the insurance company in writing. Most insurance policies require the change be notarized so they can be sure of the identity of WHO initiated the change in beneficiary. Otherwise, it would be very easy for anyone to forge a signature and change the beneficiary and then arrange for a convenient "accident" to happen to the insured. At least that is what I had to do to change the beneficiary on my life insurance from the woman who is now my ex-wife to my son. I have arranged for my ex to receive something from my estate when the time comes, but the bulk including anything from my life insurance goes to my son and his heirs.

Not necessarily on renewal sheets.

No, it's not included.

And it doesn't matter, anyway, because if he lists you today, tomorrow he can change it back to whomever.

He's right. They don't send it to him.

But the ONLY way you can be sure who the beneficiary is, is for you to purchase a policy on him yourself. That way, YOU pay the premiums, and YOU pick the beneficiary.

No they wouldn't tell you by phone and they won't put it in writing. The only way to know for sure is to make yourself an irrevocable beneficiary. Otherwise even if they did print it out he could change it the next day.

Pickle and Catz are right on this when you put them together.

You may either be the owner of the policy and control that yourself, or you could be an irrevocable beneficiary. If he is cooperative, you should be able to achieve either of these without taking out a new policy. Talk about the pros and cons with an insurance agent.

Otherwise, even if you do get a dated form stating you are beneficiary, your ex could change it the very next day without you knowing.
