I have read the previous answers. I am so surprised that ABSOLUTELY no one has a clue about this subject.
I have worked in the insurance industry for twenty years and here are the facts.
if you attempt insure just those items, you will run in to the minimum sum insured. Usually 15 to 20 thousand. You should ALWAYS insure your TOTAL contents. In fact, it is a condition of EVERY UK policy unless one goes to a specialist.
In the event of a claim the adjuster will come and look at your home. If you (say) have claimed for a £1000 television, he will look at your contents and your contents sum insured. If he reckons your contents should be 30 grand and you have covered for the minimum 15 then he will invoke the under-insurance clause. You have paid for 15 when it should have been thirty so you have paid for only half of your contents cover and you will receive only half your claim ... minus the policy excess of course. They'll get you EVERY time.

can you afford to replace EVERYTHING you own if you had a total loss from a fire or something? most people couldn't. its cheap and worth it

OK- stop and think of everything you have in your house- every piece of silverware, dishes, pots pans, towels, bedding, home decor, furniture,tv,video games, books and so on.Start a list and see how many pages you end up with. If you had a fire and everything was destroyed -with out insurance could you afford to buy everything ASAP to be able to live like you did before the fire? So yes it is very worth it, unless you are very well off! I say Farmers is great-'They get you back where you belong"

I have often questioned this, but then continued insuring. Remember it covers all furnishings, carpets etc.

You need to go to a comparison website and find the best for you.

I use the one below. My annual premium is £37 for £50,000 of cover.

if you work out how much you really have in your house you will be surprised at the total, just for the sake of a about £50 or £60 a year I think it`s worth it.

You are referring to renter's insurance? It's your contents, only you can say.

That all depends on how much your contents are worth. Think about a fire, or theft, How much would it take to replace the contents of you abode? Frankly, I wouldn't bother insuring unless my contents were include.

There is no answer to this question.

How much do you value your "PC, PSP, TV, Video, some gold and etc."?
How likely are you to be burgled?

Shop around and find a premium, do you think the premium is value for money?

These are all questions that nobody else can answer apart from you.
