Is everyone else sick of ringing BT or Insurance firms and being told -press 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 I am sick of it?

Additional Details
Especially when they give you another number to ring--it's always an 09 , which is very very expensive. why can't we talk to PEOPLE these days?.

Dragon Empress
Oh YES!
1) When you ring up you press several numbers to find the right Dept.
2) When you've finally got through, you're put on hold and have to endure their monotonous music for half an hour along with a message saying 'thank you for holding, your presently in a queue blah blah blah every 90 seconds!!
3) When an adviser is available you've been transferred to the wrong Dept.
4) When you reach the correct Dept. they put you on hold to deal with your query, therefore you have to endure another session of their ridiculous music
5) 8/10 The problem still isn't solved so you get transferred to someone else who can help - more music
6) Your pen is running out of ink after you've just drawn a lovely pattern after waiting and being put on hold for so long.
7) They in turn put you on hold to deal with your query - it's music time again!!!!
8) By this time you're fed up and pisd off and will accept anything for an answer just to get off the phone !!!!!
9) Another number to ring - forget it !!!!! You've just endured 1-8 and don't want another try!!!

brainlady
It gets beyond a joke, because every 1,2,3 and 4 option has another 1,2,3 and 4 options aswell. By the time they've asked you more questions than there are on yahoo answers, you can't remember why you phoned!

i know what you mean i was on to scottish gas it took 45 mins before someone spoke to me its shocking .i felt like smashing my phone .

Polo
Yes. By the time you get through to the relevant dept. you've forgotten what you are calling for. (Maybe that's the idea, eh?)

try pressing # # # # # # # the moment you get connected, most phone systems cant handle it and so it puts you through to an operator straight away.

YEAH!!
try pressing 0 sometimes gets you an operator - a real person, only sometimes tho

Press the star key twice. That usually gets you a human, but you still have to queue.

little weed
Yeah and after you have pressed the numbers about 3 times you find the option you wanted is no longer there or it tells you to go to the website .

Personally, I prefer the IVR's. I can get the information I need (usually) and not have to deal with unanswered phones because they are closed or busy signals or a grumpy employees' attitude.

However, I do understand that it can be frustrating when you can't find the option you need and don't want to keep guessing. This website gives quite a few cheats to get past the computers and reach a live person. It's not restricted to insurance companies so hopefully all will find this useful.

In a lot of cases it actually saves time because you do end up talking to the right person, rather than getting passed around and explaining the same thing to 5 different people... but it is annoying when you get a badly designed phone system.

As for expensive numbers, this website is quality: http://www.saynoto0870.com/ they list all the geographical numbers that the 0870 ones redicrect to, so you only pay a local/national call.

CW
Read a book entitled 'Speak to the hand' it is by a female author (can't remember her name). It asks and to an extent answers this question.

Its all down to rudeness

tjnstlouismo
Because there aren't any people there to talk to. Insurance companies, like everyone else has downsized their work force to provide minimal standards to address customer service and billing issues.

Most phone systems will direct you to a person if you simply hit zero or hold on. However more and more companies simply hang up on you.

I always think its a good idea to complain right to the top, so whatever company you are having trouble with, look at their web site and find out who runs it and email that person with your complaints.

zeggy
It is really really annoying but if you don't press anything it assumes you don't have a touch tone phone so puts you straight through to someone to speak to!! If they give you another number to ring ask them if they can transfer you, they usually can!!

Yeah!!

And by the time you've heard all the choices, you've forgotten which option you needed, and either have to hang up, or press the wrong option and wait to be transferred to another extension which gives you another four options!

Grrrrr!!!!

Jane S
and the stupid music they play when you are in a queue

harry
I RING THEM AND GET SOMEONE TO RING ME BACK , THEY WANT THE BUSINESS

ElectronProbabilityCloud
No, I like it. It makes me feel all modern and technological. It means I don't have to waste my time talking to moronic human beings. The music is nice, pleasant and calming.
