september_serenade | Is insurance really worth it? |
I am skeptical whether the insurance firms really settle claims. There is the fine-print one doesn't read when buying a policy. |

I am currently an insurance agent. It honestly depends on the type of insurance. Whole life insurance is more expensive than term insurance and a big rip off. You don't need to really "invest" in your policy. You would be better off buying the cheaper "term" life insurance policy and investing the difference in an annuity or some type of fund. Insurance on kids should only be enough to bury them at most. They have no income to replace which is one reason why life insurance is so important to survivors. |

They settle claims, you just have to think about how much you get for your money. You pay x amount every week and say you never need a claim. Let's say you have a life insurance policy for 3 years and die and you put in way less than your getting. It is all a risk. |

You may not read the fine print. I do and so do many other people. I ask lots of questions too. There are disreputable insurance companies just like in any other business.
Unfortunately, Insurance is worth it. It's true that in many instances we pay way more into the policy than we ever receive. That's the way insurance companies make there money. The thing is, few people ever have enough cash on hand to pay for the things we have insurance for. It is much easier to pay a premium than to try and save that much money. |

Yes, insurance is worth it. Suppose you have a disaster like the Hurricane that destroyed much of New Orleans last year. Insurance will help you recover.
You do need to read all the fine print and make sure you're dealing with a reputable company. Do your own due diligence. |

i am a retired Independent Insurance Broker, 23 yrs in the business--first of all, every policy sold in every state, must be approved by the State Dept of Ins of that state--they are responsible for approving the policy to be sold- that would include reading the fine print to be sure it is worded fairly to the policy recipient--second, is insurance really worth it--self insuring is 100 % riskier--you don't want to be your own ins co., no matter how much money you have==insurance is a pooling of risks, everyone puts a little money in the pot, the ins. co serves as the administrator, and everyone is protected- that is how simply it works- i am also a retired CPA, & CFP, & LUTCF so i know what i am talking about-- trust me-- if you have any other questions, please holler back at me... |

Not at all, you pay premiums every month and when you need them its ALWAYS seems to be below your deductible or its not covered. Wasted cash I think. |

Insurance is important and yes; they do pay claims that are valid. I just got $3,500 for my roof. Life insurance is critical too. If you have a wife or kids, you need it. |
