Mariobro1 | Is it better to file home insurance claims seperate or just one claim? |
My home sustained some damaged due to a snow fall back in december. I didn't file a claim back then and now that I got some shingles damaged due to strong wind i would like to file a claim. I was told that i might need to file 2 seperate claims. Would it make a big difference if i put it all under just one claim instead of filing 2 seperate ones? |

If the insurance company knows about the snow damage and the fact that it wasn't fixed they may not pay for the wind damage. This is because you didn't take due diligence to repair the original damage. They may deny the claim completely or they may limit the amount of the claim. |

Well, you can't lump in claims together. And six months after the fact, it's going to be really hard to show "snow damage" on the roof. Unless you're talking about ice backup.
If you claim one damage claim, then you're going to have to show the adjuster how you have old damage and new damage from the same claim. Snow in June might be a bit tough to explain. Or Ice backup.
Sure it makes a difference. Each claim counts against you. Each will have a seperate deductible applied. Each claim leaves different damage types, so it's going to be OBVIOUS to anyone that looks, that you have two seperate issues here.
And the bottom line might be - your roof is old. Wear and tear on the roof isn't covered, period. Sometimes you just need to replace the roof. Like, every 15 - 25 years, with an asphalt shingle roof. You can't wait for the damage to start happening, then expect the insurance company to do your maintenance for you. |

If it was two separate occurrences then your insurance company will file it as 2 claims. one happened due to wind and one due to snow (weight of snow or ice is generally not covered) |

Since it is 2 seperate losses you can not file as one claim. You must file as 2 as 2 deductibles will apply. |

I think one claim is better (even though the amount is the same either way its just one tick on your insurance, not 2) but if it was 2 seperate incidents you may need to file twice (any way you can say both problems were caused by the same thing).
Also, if the amounts are not that great you may be better off paying either one out of your own pocket. With lots of claims your insurance premiums will go up (or possibly even get cancelled) and the claim may actually end up costing you money in the long run. |

No doubt the easiest way to get insurance quotes is on the web.
Why would you waste your time on the phone calling around?
the last time i needed quotes on insurance i used one of these comparison sites and it was great.
this is the site i used and it was quick like less than 5 mins.
The last thing I want to do is listen to elevator music while waiting for a salesman.
Anyway I got good quotes and ended up saving money so I was happy.
So shop around and compare quotes which is easy on the net.
Good starting point is at this site.

Good luck. |

no it would be better to have two seperate claims because it is two different accidents |
