I'm a claims adjuster and you wouldn't believe how many claims occur during gaps in coverage for both homeowners and auto insurance. Having a gap in coverage ends up being a negative life altering thing for way too many people.
I strongly suggest avoiding a gap in coverage and if you have a mortgage I'm pretty sure they would advise the same. |

tempting fate
fire, mother nature or someone gets hurt on your property than you have no problem going without insurance |

It isnt a good idea if something happens in that week you could end up with nothing left |
|

No because if something happens and you try to claim saying it happened when the insurance was in force and the company finds out it not - which is not hard to do. You will never find reasonable price insurance. It is also illegal in UK to not have buildings insurance if you have a mortgage. If you had to have one then buildings insurance as it can be expensive. |

i don't think it's a good idea. what if there is a fire / or severe water damage ? i believe that if there is a mortgage too , you agree to maintain coverage unless you opt to have the bank do this for you. it would not be ok with me to take a chance like this. |

Usually the only time you are legally obliged to have insurance is along side a mortgage and this is buildings ins not contents. But you know sods law that always makes things happen at the worst posible time so its your risk really. |

Murphy's Law...that is the best advice that I can give you.
I wouldn't take a chance on a single day. |

Are you willing to risk fire, flood, natural disasters for that period of time?
Because if they happen, the money to fix your house comes out of YOUR pocket.
And if you have a mortgage, your mortgage company will be PISSED. It's required by them, you know. |

Well, it's not illegal, just a bit risky! |

As long as you promise you won't go crying when something happens.
A friend of several of my friends flipped an internet business in the 90's, lives a simple life, and has everything basically in cash. But because his house was paid for, he decided not to carry insurance, house burned down, then everybody's like "let's raise money for poor ol ..." I should have called my P&C guy to sponsor part of the fundraising event so he could make sure no one else was foolish. It's sad that happened to him, but I have no sympathy because it was his choice not to be covered. |
