Most insurance policies through a parent's employer do have a full time student requirement. Once a child on the policy reaches a certain age, they must be a full time student to remain covered.

Generally, this requirement doesn't kick in until the student graduates from high school (even if they turn 18 while still in high school). If your mom was asked to verify your student status, she could just demonstrate that you're still a high school student.

If you have already graduated from high school, then yes...its possible that you'll have to show proof of full time student status after you turn 18. (Many plans use age 19 as a cut-off, but I have seen some that use 18.)

Its best that you verify exactly how your mom's policy works directly with her employer and/or the insurance company before your birthday. That way, you know exactly what to expect and won't get hit with any surprises!

they told my mom the same thing. my mom was told that since i was taking part time classes at college i was not allowed to be on her insurance. if your in high school still and going....no they can't. they will wait till you get into college and do it.

True. The insurance co will be sending you a form which you will have to give to the school. They will fill it out and send it directly to the insurance company.

The school will have to verify that you indeed are a full time student, and the form must have the school seal on it.
They will mail it directly., They will not return it to you. Schools get these form by the hundreds and are used to dealing with them.

If you are still in high school, this won't qualify but it does matter if you are in college. They do check your school schedule. My dad had to send them a copy of my schedule every year to make sure that I was a full time student.

Very often - it depends on your age and the specific policy.
