Brownie12866 | Is it true that once I turn 22 I will be dropped from my father's insurance even if I am still a student...? |
in college? Can I pay a certain amount a month to still be on his plan?
We have Blue Cross but I am not sure if that makes a difference. |

It varies by policy. Some policies WILL drop you, after you finish the school year in which you turn 22. Some will keep you longer.
So no one here can know for sure - you'd have to check with your dad's HR department. |

If not the month you turn 22, the end of this year. It depends on the plan if you can continue with the insurance. There are plans available online through Blue Cross. |

It all depends on what type of insurance he has. You should ask them and ask them for their policy regarding dependent adults on the policy plans. Blue Cross has good and cheap health insurance for students. |

That's not true--I was 25 and still on my dads insurance! |

Usually around age 23 all children are dropped, as this is the age limit insurance companies have chosen. Maybe in your state it is 22. |

Yes its possible. Please check your father's plan booklet or contact the insurance company. I work for a major carrier and I see plans range from 22-25 on average. If the plan is age 22 then they have to offer Cobra but the premiums are very high. Also if your father's plan is a non-self funded plan then check the states laws. A non self fund plan is one that you father's employer doesn't pay the medical bills but the insurance company does. Your father can check that with his local HR. |

Many of the Blue Cross Blue Shield companies, (each are separately owned and operated,) have recently changed the underwriting guidelines regarding this matter. All Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona policyholders may now have dependents on their policy up to the age of 30, and they do NOT need to be a full-time student.
Blue Cross has decided to do this to help address the problem of the uninsured in this country, many of which are in this age bracket.
Most Blue Cross companies are non-profit, technically not insurance companies, but Service Organizations. They are in existence to be of service to their members and community.
Call your Blue Cross and see if this new policy has been implemented in your city.
Lastly, individual plans are fairly inexpensive, and it may be an option to simply purchase your own policy through Blue Cross. You will also have the option to transfer your current coverage to your own policy possibly. |

Where did you get that information? I was still on my father's insurance while I was an undergrad (through the age of 22). However, towards the end of college I remember the insurance company would send a letter once or twice a year that I had to go get certified at the registrar's office to prove that I was still a student. |
