It's based on average age and health. If the average age is 40, and there are some health issues, it could EASILY be $500 per employee, per month.
If the employee wants to cover their whole family, that runs $1,000 a month per family, sometimes more. |

Yes it can be very costly for employers of small companies to provide health insurance coverage for employees. In fact, employer-based health coverage is slowly becoming a thing of the past, for this very reason. One option as an employee is to get your own individual policy, so you don’t get stuck with huge medical bills in the event of an unforseen emergency. There’s a new company offering low cost individual health plans in Texas for young, reasonably healthy people. You buy into a plan at a super low cost with fixed benefits that will cover the typical activities and preventative care of a healthy person. Then, if something catastrophic happens, you have the option to get additional levels of coverage, even AFTER the event. A healthy 25-year-old male (and under) would pay under $100 a month for basic coverage. Check them out at http://www.precedent.com - Even if you’re not in Texas, my understanding is that they’ll be offering plans in additional states soon. I hope you find what you need! |

yes ; for me with no dependents about 550.00 a month; you can get insurance with high deductible which is cheaper , maybe around 180.00/month so that if you are hospitalized you don't get saddled with outrageous bill; you can get 2500 deductible. This digs into corporate profit |

Health insurance is very costly. Could be nobody every asked about it, so ask the boss. If the company is fairly large they should be able to offer some type of plan for their employees. If they have multiple offices they must be a larger company. It is possible to buy health insurance for yourself and in some states it is even less expensive than going thru a company plan. |

If your branch is owned independently from the parent company then yes this is probably the case. In order to get a lower price companies need more people/employees to buy into the plan. |

The average premium for a family under a small group plan is just over $1,000 a month. That's why many small businesses do not offer employer-sponsored health plans. You can get an individual health insurance plan for much less than the small group rates, if you are healthy. Check with a local health insurance broker. |

First question is, if insurance is provided, dpending on the type of insurance, it could be ~ 20% or more of salary topay for the insurance and administer it. if that is "expensive" or not is a judgment call. some businesses do it, and some don't. some pay part while the employee pays part.
As to why no one at *your* company has it, I would asy it is because the company can apparently hire the workers it needs without providing the benefit. Only you and your coworkers can change that.
Good luck! |

Yes, sadly, it is costly. Insurance companies are the cause of the worst problems with Americans being uninsured. Their greed is unprecedented.
You and your co-workers might consider making a suggestion to your employer that you would be willing to pay for 1/2 of the insurance premium.
First research on line the cost of insurance. And forward the cost of the various insurances to your employer.
YOu will find that there is affordable insurance but you have to search for it. Try blue cross/blue shield. Also if you choose services you feel will be best that helps control costs.
Good luck. |

If it is an independent branch, then that's fairly normal--it's up to the branch to provide group insurance if they choose. If it's not an independent branch, you could always ask if there is a possibility of being added to the parent company's plan-sometimes, it just takes asking.
Insurance is a huge expense for employers, and it only gets worse with each passing year. If your branch is an independent branch, and you have more than 5 employees, you might do some research into HSAs, which work in conjunction with high deductible health plans. That might be something that could be affordable for the employer. Depending on your state, you could look at MEWAs, which are a vehicle for smaller companies to offer a group plan for employees. Your employer may also offer to pay a portion of the premium for independent plans for each employee.
Good luck! I know how tough it is to be without insurance. |

Why worry?
If you are smart you can have great individual coverage
between $100 - $200/month or less. To achieve the highest
coverage and the lowest price, combine
My Simple Card membership (Total Health Option)
with a high deductible and very cheap health insurance
from My eHealthInsurance. If you really want to stay below
$100, you can skip the second part. |
