We bought our policy last year and it is a total rip off. I could get more insurance with the same terms for less than half (and it is a term policy). Any suggestions?

Is pregnancy a considerd a pre-existing condition In NY?
I have aetna ... It's terrible i have to pay for my labs out of pocket, possibly my sonogram too, there is a discounted to price but it's still alot of money. My deductible is $600 ( any money i pay out of pocket such as lab fees, sonograms ect not including my co-pay come off of the ductible and when that is gone aetna will cover 80%). My husband has univera health care and his plan cover all the labs and sonograms and has a $500 deductible for an inpatient delivery. I obviouly want to switch to his the only reason i took mine out was in case I got sick, my open enrollment was in novemeber his is in May. His open enrollment deffinatly qualifies as a life change event so i can drop mine but I don't know if univera considers pregnancy a pre-pexiting conditon. I heard alot of back and forth saying they have to leagally cover and some say the don't there are too many loopholes Ive e-mailed them but they havent responded yet so i'm not sure. We didn't think we'd get preg this quick Additional Details I've jsut read about Hipaa it is a federal law that does not alow group health insurence to deny you coverage if you are pregnant BUT i've heard that there are loop holes does anyone know anything about that.
It would be an extremely rare circumstance that a *group* insurance policy would be able to consider your pregnancy pre-existing. (Basically, the group policy would have to be exempt from HIPAA...I've seen a small handful of policies for government employees that are exempt from the HIPAA requirements regarding pregnancy, but it would be very rare.)
If you're transferring from one group policy to the other, you should be okay. (I change from my own insurance policy to my husbands during my 6th month of pregnancy, without a problem at all.)
One thing you might want to investigate before you make the change is to confirm that the doctor and hospital you're planning to use are in your husband's network. If you end up having to use an out of network doctor or hospital, you could end up getting stuck with a larger chunk of the bill than what you're already anticipating having to pay under Aetna.

If your husband's group coverage has more than 20 employees, there is no pre-existing. Just so you know, a life changing event allows you to be enrolled when that life changing event occurs-you don't have to wait for open enrollment.

Not familiar with Aetna, but when you were enrolled in their healthcare plan you should have received a packet of information that describes what is and isn't covered. Have you tried to find it in there yet? Sorry I can't help otherwise, but I guess that is where I'd start if I were you. Good luck!

It would be a pre-existing condition if you had no insurance at all. But since you are already covered and there won't be any lapse in coverage, you might be able to switch without running into non-coverage issues. The key issue is lapse in coverage. But be sure to check with the new insurance company and be sure they will cover you (get it in writing if you can) before you make any decisions.

I believe it is a pre-existing condition.
Don't drop your Aetna coverage. I also hate Aetna. I can't say anything good about them.
I hope we eventually have socialized medicine in the United States. That would be great.
