I'd say go for the best deal you get, because when it comes to the crunch you have the same rights by law, regardless of who you are with. However you should Check with your state's insurance department to see if who you choose to go with are licensed to do business.
Try filling a form here http://gsx1.com/InsuranceComparison.html
it's one form to get a number of quotes from different insurers. It's free and a big time saver, these are all the main American insurers competing to get your business so you are bound to find something that suits you, if it works out remember my points please :) |

I had progressive for my last accident. They were very prompt with my check for damages, within a couple days, and their rates were fairly decent. However, they are a little pushy on the medical claims and want you to close them quickly. If you have a good driving record there are several companies that are for people that have perfect records and are better, but overall Progressive was a great company. |

Every insurance company has there problems. You really need to know what type of coverage you want for your vehicle. If you dont know ask an agent. Dont ask the agents that are trying to sell you insurance through these answers. You need to find someone you trust. Also look at AM Best Rating for company stability that always helps me. Progressive is an A++ company therefore they will pay your claims and not go out of business. There are allot of A++ companies out there you just need to shop around. Dont be afraid to check out some of the smaller companies they usually have lower premiums to get there name out there and they are still rated an A company. |

I had Progressive once. My car stopped working and I wanted to cancel the insurance. (You know, if I wasn't driving it I didn't need insurance!) They wanted me to pay for the next months insurance. I was not going to pay for something I wasn't using.
I have SafeCo. My car is fully insured for both me and my hubby and we pay $93 a month.
I would check with SafeCo...they were cheaper then Progressive to begin with. |

I like Progressive a lot. I wouldn't hesitate to use them.
As far as "better", well, how do you judge that? My personal insurance is with State Farm. I have a house, so it's cheaper for me to put my car insurance with the same company that writes my house insurance. That's why *I* am not with Progressive. But I've sold them for, oh, maybe 15 years, and don't have problems with them. |

I just switched to Progressive and they offered me $100 less every 6 months than my last insurance co. for the same policy so I am pleased with them. |

I had progressive for 2 years. At the time I hadnt had previously had insurance for longer than 6 months and just had an accident. I felt they were fair and stuck with them. I paid a butt load and I didnt know I could go anywhere else that would be cheaper. One day I called my dads agent at State Farm and they where $80 cheaper a month!! I was super happy. I added a second car to my policy and I still pay less ($60) than I did with one car at Progressive. I am soooo happy I switched. My sons grandparents also switched from Progressive to Geico and save half of what they were paying. |

Modus Operandi
 |
I have a personal thing against Progressive because of their comparison testing. They could get someone's info, decide they are the kind of policy holder they want (i.e. not many claims) and somehow get quotes at other companies to be higher. Or conversely I could see them claiming their rates would be higher than their competition if a person was a riskier driver. Since it hasn't been proved to me how legitimate their competitive pricings are, I choose to not even look their way. |
