Is renter's insurance likely to cover mold damaged items stored in a basement?
I rent my house and we have a developing mold issue in the basement. I insure my belongings with State Farm. I am unsure if they cover mold/ mold damage in Renter's insurance. Do you have any idea if they would replace the damaged belongings? What would I have to do to get them replaced?

Personal Property coverage is covered for Named Perils only. If the "peril" is not named in the covered perils section of your policy, there is no coverage. You can also look at the exclusions under your policy and you will find one that talks specifically about mold and mildew or gradual wear and tear and you will find that you have no coverage for this type of loss. I would recommend that you not even check with your agent about coverage because even when coverages are excluded and you receive no payment, the reported claim will show up on your insurance history (CLUE)

You can bet your bottom dollar that mold damage is excluded.

Mold is not sudden and accidental. AND, you aren't doing anything to stop the mold from growing on your stuff - like moving the stuff.

Answer number two is right. You should have contacted your landlord about fixing the problem that's causing the mold. Since you haven't stated that you've done any of that, they will not cover your personal property because you have been overly "negligent"

Mold is excluded and there is a limit on it even in th exception that the company will cover it. But if you know there is a mold issue where you live then why doesn't the owner do something about it? Or, why don't you protect your belongings against the mold?

Or you might call your city's building and safety dept or housing dept for help. The reason the home has mold is because there must be some moisture there like leaking water. Find out the source and get someone to fix it. It is not healthy to live with mold.

NO WAY! all policies exclude mold. sorry
