keli h | Is selling life insurance a lucrative job? |
I am tired of all the jobs I've ever had!!!! I don't have a career and have been asked if I'd like to sell life insurance. It's for a good, and well known company and it isn't "cold" selling or telemarketing. Is it worth doing? How annoying are life insurance sales people? (i've never liked them), but people do need it. tell me what you think. I'd appreciate it. |

As with most things that are pure sales, it's as lucrative as you make it.
In the end, it's all up to you. Yes, it helps to be good at sales, but there's more to it than that -- you have to have your client's best interest at heart. (And to realize THAT has to be the primary deciding factor for which products you recommend for them, NOT whatever product is offering a production bonus, or may have the higher commissions/residuals.) If you really listen to your clients and really care about trying to help them, you can build a very nice business purely based on referrals -- but that takes time and dedication.
Over the long haul, it can be VERY lucrative, but you have to be prepared to live close to the bone for at least five years while working 80-100 hours a week. |

Yes if you have the following criteria:
#1 determination to be successful
- without this , no one can help you
#2 willing to follow and model your mentor (follow a successful one)
#3 learn , learn and learn
#4 love to meet and service people
#5 love insurance and understand how it can help people !
the more you know the value of life insurance the more you can sell.
start selling on a part time basis, build a sizeable base before you quit your current job.
make use of the internet as one of the powerful tool to help you to get customer list. Start building a prospect list (up to a minumum of 500 prospect) and continue to grow this list b4 you start as a full time agent.
btw, all business need prospoects, cold calling telemarketing are only a few ways to get more prospect. Be creative and develop a system that can generate quality sales lead. |

I did some cold selling of mutual funds etc in the past. The earnings are very good if you can find buyers. The trouble was it was very difficult to do so and in the end I gave up. It may be better for you, as you say it will not be cold selling.
So, If you will be selling to people who have already expressed interest in life insurance and your earnings will not be from commission only, then do try it. |

It can be very lucrative if you sell and sell well. Depending on the company you are looking at working with the commissions will vary and the residuals will vary as well. The commissions are important but the residuals are what keep you in tall cotton. I used to be in the life insurance business with a company that uses a rock for a marketing tool. I knew and know people that based off of their residuals make a base salary of 50k+. Residuals is what you earn if the policy stays on the book and renews year after year. |
