Not if it is caused by wear and tear and be wary of claiming on the insurance anyway in this case. Given the excess on your policy, it may not be worth your while applying to them - just get it fixed yourself. Every time you claim on your insurance, your premium increases, so only claim for major things is my advice!

What caused the damage? If it was a collision or the named perils under your comprehensive coverage, then yes. If it's just a repair issue, no.

I am assuming this is re a house, although a car might be similar. If the door lock breaks due to lack of maintenance it is not covered by insurance. If lock mechanism fails preventing you entering this is an accident and you can claim. They may check lock to see if it wasn't looked after.
I had a refusal on this, saying it was not classified as an accident. I sent them the dictionary definition of the word 'accident' and they paid up.
