No. You cannot do that. However, I would recommend that you call the 3 major credit reporting agencies and ask about putting a password on your credit files. I just heard about this process earlier this week. This would mean that no one can add anything to your credit history without the password. They say it's a great tool in the fight against identity theft.
Additionally, you should sign up for a service like Privacy Assist, offered through Bank of America. It allows you to monitor your credit report so that you can quickly address any issues that crop up.

No, you are stuck with that ssn forever. I would put an alert on all three credit reporting companies, so if somebody tries to use your ssn to apply for credit...they will alert you first.

No. You can not change it. The alert is a good idea, and you can do this by contacting the credit bureaus.

Getting a new number is really hard to do and its not like you can just apply for another one any time you want. What you need to do is call the 3 credit agency's and let them know that your wallet was stolen and to flag your SSN# so that identity theft wont happen. Then call all credit cards that you have and let them know as well. I would have a police report ready if you have one. If not find out from the SSN office near you what your options are. Good Luck
Oh and next time you get a SS card read everything on the darn thing cause its illegal to carry it on you unless needed to show proof you have one and all that fun stuff.

If you haven't already file a police report saying your wallet was stolen. Then take a copy to your local social security board and fill out the paper work they give you show them the police report and they will give you a new number. It takes a while and you have to change it on EVERYTHING else but they will do it for theft!
