I'm Canadian. The bank that I have my account's with have a great insurance company now. Up until 2 years ago Canadian banks were not allowed to be in the insurance business.I've switched both house and car over to them last year and pay $1500.00 less for the same coverage as I had. try them, their in the US also now.

I'm with Farm Bureau in North Carolina and have been ever since I was first licensed at 16. I shopped around for insurance a few months ago right before my renewal, just for comparison purposes, and found that Farm Bureau was actually cheaper than everyone else except Geico, which was only about 10 bucks cheaper. So I stayed with NCFB (and I work for them too so I'm a little biased I suppose).
When I was shopping around, I found that Progressive was actually the HIGHEST for me. In any case, I prefer and recommend having insurance somewhere you can have an actual agent that you can meet and talk to, rather than doing it all online.
Some people consider insurance a ripoff, but like a previous poster said, you HAVE to have it. And contrary to what most people think of the insurance industry, we aren't out to get you and all your money. We just want to have our clients as protected as possible in the case of unfortunate events (car accidents, hurricanes, floods, etc). It is our job to help you, not harm you.
And remember, especially when it comes to auto insurance, every company has its own set of underwriting standards and it's own practices as far as who they'll insure and how they price you. Just because one company says they'll charge you a big chunk of money doesn't mean another one will. So always shop around before choosing a company! And keep this in mind, the worse off your driving record is, the higher your rates will be, no matter where you go. So practice safe driving people!!! Oh, and keep your credit clean too. Most companies run credit checks now before insuring you. Hope this helps! |

I'd love to know why you feel "ripped-off". There are some crooks out there but both companies you mentioned have good reputations in general. I'd agree with folks here that Progressive is pretty good, but I'd suggest using a Broker. I think most folks need to have coverages explained to them. Hey, no one likes to pay a big premium but if you were in an accident and hurt someone badly you'd be upset to have 25/50 bodily injury limits. Sometimes it pays to think before you gripe... |

It depends on how you feel you were ripped off.
Did you pay premiums and then not get a claim paid?
J.D. Power and Associates continually rank auto insurers by customer satisfactions.
The top ranked companies usually are: USAA (based in San Antonio, TX...but you have to be miltary, ex-military, or related to one of those to qualify), SAFECO Insurance (based in Seattle) and State Farm. |

NO, they are all the same. It is the insurance game. You have to play because the law makes you have insurance, for some reason (oh, that's right people get in accidents and hurt and kill people). Playing the game allows you to drive, not playing the game opens you up to jail time (unless you were drunk when you killed someone).
Try to ask all your hard questions up front. Try to find an independent insurance broker who works with some smaller companies. Hope this helps |

Progressive is a good company. They reevaluate your policy every six months, and the price usually drops. I've been with them almost seven months, and it went down $20 per month. I haven't had to make a claim yet but have talked with others who have/had Progressive and feel this company is reliable. |

"I'd love to know why you feel "ripped-off"."
This is the easiest question I've ever answered. How about getting totally stiffed on two straight claims by State Farm Insurance. That happened last year. But I plan on spending the rest of my life spreading the word against them, because they put me through a terribly long investigation prior to stiffing me on the first claim. I found out later it happened because Suzette DeSalvo my agent at the time didn't want me as a policyholder anymore after 20 years, because of an above average amount of claims.
I was robbed and vandalized by a moving company and had the pictures to prove it. The movers were so guilty, they fled the country. This claim should have been a slam dunk. Instead I had to go through about a 4 month very time consuming investigation that ended up in my getting stiffed entirely on the claim.
At first I was told to replace what was stolen. It wasn't until AFTER that, the investigation began. What this company did was just out and out sadistical.
At one time perhaps State Farm was a good company. But right now the insurance industry has us at their mercy. Now State Farm is showing their true colors. They're a must to avoid. |
