Is there a time limit in reporting an insurance claim by law toyour insurer??
Is there a specific time limit to which you need to obide to when reporting a Stolen Van claim to your insurer, by law??

The policy states that you need to report this as soon as responsibly possible. In general, there is no set time frame. However, courts have held that if your delay in reporting this causes the insurance company harm by not being able to properly investigate the claim, they can deny coverage. And the longer you wait to report it without a good reason, the more likely the company will suspect fraud.

The general rule is 'as soon as is reasonably practical' - in the case of a stolen van & with modern communication advances one could assume that to mean immediately on discovery of the Theft.

If you were on holiday- when you get home etc.

Although if there is a genuinely good reason why the theft has not been reported earlier you should not have too many problems.

Yes, in most cases the police and the insurance companies require that you report the theft within 24hrs...or AS SOON AS YOU NOTICE! Dont wait, because you could be charged with fraud and it makes you look VERY suspicious....

not really unless you prejudice them in some way. every state has a statute of limitations for personal injury, property damage and contract claims. they vary by state.

welcome news
There is no absolute time limit in law.

Your insurance policy will advise you that the incident should be reported as soon as possible but no specific time limits are set (other than Quinn I believe which has a 24 hour limit). It is of course in your interest to report the claim as quickly as possible so you get paid out as quickly as possible.

Please note that if you switch insurance companies and then report the claim you will have to advise your insurance company that the claim has been reported and your no claims bonus affected (you should had advised the new insurance company of the incident anyway)

You need to report "as soon as is practically possible" you might find that the insurer won't pay out unless they have a police incident number.
Why would you wait anyway?

Depends how well you and the Agent talk to each other, in my experience.
