medicare.gov is the best and impartial. stick w/ it. you can figure it out. |

Medicare.gov is the simplest available. Your best option, however, would be to visit a local independent agent that works in the senior market. The agent will represent most available plans and can help you compare. There is no charge to using an agent and you'll have a local person to call with any questions in the future.
Time is running short for most people. Annual enrollment is over December 31. |

You can still go to medicare.gov to get an overview of plan comparisons for your area by placing in your zip code.
Once you have found a plan of interest, then contact an agency direct that represents the plan so you can be better assisted
If you see very specific doctors for your needs, it is best to first ask the doctor what medicare replacement plans they accept. You don't want to find out after the fact the plan you chose is not accepted by the provider.
Medicare has specific open enrollment times related to when you were eligible for Medicare. Traditionally, it is Nov 1 thru Dec 31. There are mid-term open enrollments in the Spring time for other eligible people. Contact Medicare and ask specifically when open enrollment is available for you.
It takes up to 90 days to process you into a Medicare replacement program. So the sooner you do it, the sooner you get enrolled.
Choose wisely for your needs. How often do you see the doctor? How often and average cost of monthly prescriptions do you use? Some Prescription plans with the Medicare part D vary on an annual limit basis. So you will want to be acutely aware as not to maximize your limits and then be on the hook for out of pocket costs for the balance year.
If you are eligible for SSI or State medicaid benefits, make sure you let the plan of choice know so they also may coordinate payments with those programs which helps minimize out of pocket costs for you.
A Medicare Replacement policy cannot offer you any less than what standard Medicare would have offered you.
Good luck on your research. Remember, choose wisely as you will be locked in for a year before you can change again. Also, if you have chosen a Medicare Replacement vs. Medicare Supplemental program, be aware that an agency cannot sell you a Supplement while you have replacement. The basic rule is they cannot sell you less than the current program you have as it is a Federal Law violation via Medicare. Aalso, an company or agency cannot call you direct and solicit to you unless you have approached them first about an interest in the product line.
They cannot force you sign paperwork once they have visited you during the visit. You do have the right to delay your decision as long as you complete your decision prior to the final day of your scheduled open enrollment period or you will be subject to wait until the next available period
if you need help reading the medicare matrix, feel free to get a hold of me. I will need an email image of the website you are viewing since it is tailored to your area. I saw your question earlier but I was in the middle of some insurance policies at the time so I did take a look at medicare.gov and studied the matrix to see if it was clear in its comparison charting. I am so used to staring at them I take it for granted it is prolly complicated for the layman

The best thing to do is call a LOCAL independent agent. Don't go across town, or to some other city - look for someone CLOSE. Just look in the phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you will find a professional licensed agent that will be able to help you solve your insurance problems, and give you rate comparisons of several different companies.
An independent insurance agent will normally have a dozen different companies and if he cannot help you, he should be networked with other local agents that can.
Most of the replies on this site say "go to this on-line carrier or that on-line carrier or that 1-800 number" but I'm sure that when you do, you will find some impersonal computer user with a script to work from and you won't be able to talk with the same person every time you have a problem!
Stop trying to be your OWN agent and get someone to HELP you. That's what a local agent gets PAID to do! You don't want to make a choice on your own, and find out later (typically at the time of need) that YOU messed up! Then, there's no one to blame except yourself. If your AGENT messes up, you can blame/sue him.
Good luck and I hope this helps! |
