There are hundreds of individual plans available to you, from the basic plans with little coverage all the way up to comprehensive plans that will cover almost everything. Do not try to do this online. It'll take you days to compare policies and if you shop price you'll get the basic plan with little coverage. Your next question here will then be either "why didn't my insurance pay for my procedure?" or "why did the insurance company decline my application?"
Visit a local agent that works with all the major companies. The agent can find the best plan for your situation and budget and will be able to explain the coverage and, more importantly, the exclusions of the plan you select. There is no extra charge using an agent.
Also, do not fill out the on-line requests for quotes unless you want a bunch of people calling you with quotes which may or may not be suitable for you. |

Pretty much every company offers private coverage whether it's Blue Cross, ODS, HealthNet, any of them. Just google the name and fill out the application online. They will let you pick the coverage that best suits you. If it's too expensive or you just can't afford it there are often insurance systems offered through the state department. They usually don't cost much if anything and have pretty good coverage and prescription benefits.
I'm a stay at home mom and my Blue Cross costs me $127 a month for my own policy. |

I sell private dental insurance for $15 per month, pre-existing conditions are not held against you. You get two cleanings a year, annual xrays, and two oral exams a year for zero copay. There is a copay for everything else.
I also have stand alone vision through Spectra that is $7 per month. These plans are insurance and not discount plans.
The P&C agents who post here do not specialize in these type plans obviously so that is why they post negative remarks about them. Best wishes. |

Blue Cross, Blue Shield, I think Aetna also but get ready for sticker shock....as it will cost you between $300.00 to $600.00 a month for any type of decent care. |

Ignore the BlueCross answers because BlueCross is a different company in most every state (some overlap). But, I love BlueCross in CA, MD, DC, VA, but it's a terrible company in TX (my opinion). So, consider it, but keep in mind opinions on BlueCross do you NO GOOD unless you're talking about the same BlueCross. BlueCross is only a logo used by different companies...Anthem, Regence, CareFirst, on and on....
AND, Aetna is VERY cheap in some states AND outlandishly expensive in others. It's the same company, and mostly the same plans, but different rates...different states.
You just need an insurance broker. You can go to my web page and click on the pickle and enter your info and it'll tell you (and quote you) what companies are available in your state (it'll prompt you if it can't)
But, yes you just get coverage on your own. It's no big deal and it's USUALLY the smarter route to travel anyway. Group and company provided coverage does not equal better coverage.
Hope that helps,
Jeff |

Well, if you're healthy, you go to a local agent and ask them for quotes. Medical with a low deductible should run you around $200 a month. But I haven't seen any private vision or dental policies, that pay out more than they cost. Before you buy one of them, run the numbers. They'll likely cost you $50 a month or so, have a waiting period before you can use them, and only make partial payments, on certain procedures. |
