That will cover you even if you are eligible for insurance through an employer? I can get it through my employer but the cost is absolutely outrageous. All the individual plans I have looked at say you cannot be eligible for benefits through your employer in order to be eligible for their plans. I just basically need coverage in case something happens, i'm a healthy 24 year old. I'm in Michigan BTW. |

Absolutely. You can buy a private policy, if you're in good health. Generally, the private policy is more expensive than the employer's group policy, because the employer picks up part of the cost.
For you, a single guy, wiht no maternity benefits, obviously, you're looking at about $250 a month for insurance. |

You should be able to sign up for an individual plan even though your employer offers insurance. Atleast, you could in Utah. You should contact a local agent who knows the laws in Michigan and will be able to tell you if that's the case for sure. I know in Utah, that if your employer offers Blue Cross, you may not be able to go through Blue Cross, but you can go to another insurer who will gladly take an application. A local agent would be happy to help you through this.

That may be an issue related directly to the state, because I write all kinds of individual policies for people in your position. However, I write mostly in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee.
If you're medically eligible for coverage, trust me, the individual health insurance companies WANT to write the coverage. If you have questions about it, you should probably contact the Michigan Dept. of Labor & Economic Growth Financial & Insurance Services division.
