No, you need to be out of prison and off parole before you can get an underwritten policy. Risks to mortality include shanking and hepatitis, among other things.
You may be able to find a guaranteed issue policy at a substantially higher premium, depending on your state of residence. Companies include Presidential, Cotton States, Penn Treaty, etc. |

It depends on the benefit dollar amount of the policy and the carrier itself. Some insurance carriers will allow you to purchase a policy without taking any exams. However, they will only do this for policies under $50,000-$100,000. Also, you may want to be honest with the agent you work with. There may be an exclusion in the policy for someone who is incarcerated. It may be a good thing to know before you purchase a policy, if they will insure someone who is in prison. |
