Is there reasonable insurance that covers pre-existing pregnancy?
My friend lost her husband in an accident a couple weeks ago. She found out days after his death that she was pregnant. The Cobra coverage through his employer is over $600 monthly. Does anyone know of an insurance company with reasonable rates that will cover a pre-existing pregnancy?
First she needs to contact the state and the Social Security department as she is entitled to benefits from both. Her child will receive a SS check every month until he/she is 19.
Most states will cover prenatal care and delivery for the low income. I would imagine that eventually she will not be working (or may not work now). That is what these programs were created for, make sure she takes advantage of the things that are in place to help her.
I am so sorry for her loss.

as i am concerned there is no such insurance company covers pre-existing pregnancy as the insurance company has to pay the claim and the medical charges at the time of the delivery....

The state should be able to help her out. My condolences to your friend.

due to HIPAA act pregnancy can not be considered pre-existing. have your friend call the state and may get medicaid. i hope all works out well.

No. That's like going to the track, and asking the bookie if you can make a bet AFTER the race.
The good news is, a normal delivery and prenatal care is about $4,000 cash. A c-section is going to run you closer to $7,000.
But I'd still keep the cobra coverage - not just for the pregnancy, but everything else, too.
